Could Sam Graves face a MAGA Primary Challenge?

Is Congressman Sam Graves Ready for a MAGA Primary Challenge in 2026? Don’t Hold Your Breath—He’s Been Busy Representing Who Exactly?

By all accounts, Congressman Sam Graves, the long-standing “representative” of Missouri’s 6th District, Which includes the Kansas City Northland should be untouchable after two decades in Washington. Yet, there’s a growing rumble among grassroots Republicans that his reign might be on shaky ground come 2026. Why? Well, let’s just say Graves’ resume is looking a little stale—and not because he’s been overwhelmed with championing the will of his constituents.

Passed Over by Trump—Not MAGA Enough?

Congressman Sam Graves, who has held Missouri’s 6th District in a legislative headlock for over 20 years, might finally have something to worry about other than what flavor of coffee to sip during appropriations committee meetings. As frustration mounts among staunch conservatives, whispers of a MAGA primary challenger in 2026 are growing louder than the applause at a Trump rally.

Let’s face it—Graves, a self-described champion of Missouri values, has spent decades in Washington D.C. "representing" the people of his district. And by representing, we mean voting to send billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine and Israel while potholes multiply back home and Missouri farmland quietly sells off to Chinese interests. Perhaps he misunderstood his role; maybe "Missouri" was a typo in his job description, and it actually says "International Diplomacy Liaison."

It’s no secret that Sam Graves has been hanging around Congress since 2001, but what exactly has he accomplished for the folks back home? Critics argue that Graves is better at being a Washington fixture than a representative of Missouri values. After all, the congressman didn’t even make the cut when Donald Trump was handing out cabinet positions like candy. That’s got to sting for someone who’s been quietly toeing the establishment line for years. Perhaps Graves thought loyalty to the “uniparty” would pay off, but apparently, Trump didn’t think he was the guy for the job. Trump was considering him for transportation secretary most likely due to Graves's lack of Trumpy praise. He rarely ever talks about President Trump

Ukraine, Israel, and...China?

Fast forward to 2024, and Graves finds himself answering tough questions—or dodging them, depending on your perspective—about his voting record. Constituents are raising eyebrows over his enthusiasm for sending billions of taxpayer dollars overseas to Ukraine and Israel, all while Missouri’s 6th District grapples with its own economic and agricultural challenges. Supporting foreign aid might score points with the D.C. elite, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that voters back home aren’t impressed.

As one fiery commentator put it, “Will you actually do ANYTHING of value this session? I mean, besides voting to send BILLIONS to Ukraine & Israel while ignoring our ongoing turmoil at home?” The sentiment echoes across social media, where Graves’ Facebook page is suspiciously short on dissenting comments—an editorial choice, perhaps? On the other hand Graves does seem seriously supportive of sticking it to China.

MAGA Rising: The Call for a Challenger

The chatter about a potential MAGA primary challenger isn’t just idle talk. Conservative groups like MO RINO Watch are rallying supporters to infiltrate county Republican committees and take back control from what they see as entrenched establishment figures like Graves. The argument is simple: Missouri deserves representation that prioritizes its people over foreign governments and big-money donors.

As a GOP committee woman, Natalie Scholl put it, "[We need] a well-to-do patriot in the 6th congressional district that will run against RINO Sam Graves in 2024. Bonus: good name recognition and strong moral compass in order to withstand demonic forces in D.C. Anyone know any wealthy farmers that don't mind spending a bunch of money to play in a swamp? "

“Sam Graves is a worthless RINO!” declared one frustrated voter online. “People in MO need to get more involved and informed on the candidates they keep voting for over and over!” Another chimed in, “Time for new blood. Let’s get together behind a new anti-uniparty candidate. I will help!”

Missouri First? Not for Graves

It’s not just Graves’ foreign policy votes raising hackles. Critics are calling him out for failing to address pressing issues at home, such as Chinese investment in Missouri farmland although Graves spent plenty of time focusing on Chinese threats in his last campaign. This has become a hot-button issue for many Republicans, who argue that allowing foreign entities to control the state’s agricultural backbone is a recipe for disaster and argue that Graves has been  at ineffective on the matter.

As one exasperated Missourian put it, “We need someone who is actively seeking the will of majority Missourians, not foreign countries.”

So, could a MAGA candidate dethrone Graves? The grassroots rumblings certainly suggest it. Groups like MO RINO Watch are urging conservatives to infiltrate Republican central committees and start identifying viable challengers.

"These committees are saturated with folks that love these lifelong, freedom-hating RINOs," one activist declared. They’re calling for a candidate who will tackle the issues that matter most to Missourians: protecting farmland from Chinese investors, securing the southern border, and stopping what they view as reckless international spending.

And it’s not just rhetoric. Graves’ record of voting with the so-called “uniparty” has alienated some of his core base. These are voters who want to see America First policies brought to the forefront—not another term of Graves grinning his way through bipartisan photo-ops while ignoring calls for action at home.

The Trump Factor

It’s no secret that Missouri is Trump Country, and the former president’s influence could loom large over a 2026 primary. A MAGA-backed candidate, armed with Trump’s endorsement and a fiery platform, could pose a serious threat to Graves’ longstanding incumbency.

The congressman’s critics argue that his votes and policies align more with the D.C. establishment than the MAGA grassroots movement. If the right challenger emerges—a Missouri patriot who promises to put America First and isn’t afraid to ruffle establishment feathers—Graves might be packing up his office come January 2027.

The Road to 2026

The dissatisfaction with Graves mirrors a broader frustration with career politicians who seem more concerned with maintaining their D.C. credentials than representing the grassroots. With calls for new leadership growing louder, Graves might find himself facing a serious MAGA-backed primary challenger in 2026. And if that happens, he’ll have no one to blame but himself—and perhaps the uniparty he so reliably votes with.

Until then, the 6th District will keep waiting for Graves to put Missouri first. But hey, at least the foreign aid budgets are secure, right?
