Liberty, MO Mayor's Negative Ad Campaign Leaves Citizens Disgusted

Mayor Greg Canuteson, the Political Bully of Liberty: A Masterclass in Desperation

In a display of political finesse that would make even the most seasoned Machiavellian proud, Liberty Mayor Greg Canuteson has apparently decided that playing nice is for amateurs. Forget about decorum, civility, or even a modicum of decency—when you're fighting for your job, why not just drag your opponent through the mud with a grotesque, baseless smear campaign?

Roy Werner, a longtime Liberty resident, recently shared his dismay on social media after witnessing Canuteson’s latest ad campaign against mayoral hopeful Giselle Fest. "I’ve seen different mayors at the helm steering this fine city," Werner began, "but today I saw the most grotesque negative ad campaign against Giselle Fest by Mayor Greg Canuteson. Just turns my stomach that he would use such tactics." Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The ad accuses Fest of not only being a Ku Klux Klan member supporting racial lynching's, but also of planning to defund the Liberty police department.  Here is the thing. Gieselle Fest is known as a MAGA Republican. These types aren't usually into defunding police.  They tend to be law and order types. This lil rock finds Mayor Greg's claim to be strange and unusual. But who knows, maybe Fest is that rare Trump lover who is all about exposing police brutality and protesting with BLM.  If she is really that progressive we just might be voting for her.

One might imagine that a man who has been in office long enough to see various political tides shift would have a better grip on, you know, the basics of good governance. But alas, it appears Canuteson has opted to take the low road and show the public his true colors—a shade of desperate yellow.

Oh, he was so emotional when when this lil rock have asked about the incident. He went off on this wild tangent about how there are bunches of neo-Nazis and KKK members taking over the Liberty City Council meetings, and apparently, he has to play the role of the strong, authoritarian leader to maintain control. When this lil rock expressed a little doubt about the whole neo-Nazi thing, he insisted they should come see for themselves—like he was totally convinced of it, no question. Then, he went on to say that  actions of certain anti-tax community activists  are somehow encouraging these so-called neo-Nazis and white supremacists to crash the meetings, although, don’t worry, he’s adamant that he doesn't think these community activists are personally a racist or a neo-Nazi. Because, of course, that's the logical next step in a rational conversation, right?

Oh, but wait, it gets better! He went off on some rant about a woman named Carrie Lonsdale and a guy named Dwayne Holtzclaw supposedly masterminding online attacks against him—because why not throw her into the mix, right? The crazy thing is, voters actually watched recordings of some of these council meetings, and shockingly, none of the attendees seemed like fringe extremists. It’s almost as if the mayor is completely losing his grip and has gone off the deep end. Voters honestly don’t know what to make of it—maybe he’s having some kind of mental breakdown or early-onset dementia? It’s hard to say at this point.

The criticisms are not just limited to the ad campaign itself. Word on the street (or, rather, on NextDoor) is that Canuteson has been less than stellar in his interactions with those who disagree with him. From allegations of verbal abuse toward women who oppose him to the now-infamous blocking of former city council candidates after a mere disagreement, the mayor seems to have perfected the art of playing the petty politician.

The ad, widely criticized for its lack of substance and heavy-handed tactics, has sparked outrage among residents like Michelle B. and Rebecca Hamlett, who questioned its validity and labeled it as desperate. Jeff Thomas echoed their sentiments, emphasizing the community's disappointment.

Adding fuel to the fire, Kristen Gaona remarked, "It’s terrible especially when this Mayor has been verbally abusive to women who are against him," highlighting broader concerns about Canuteson's leadership style.

Newcomer Bob M., while still familiarizing himself with local politics, expressed shock, saying, "I did not see the ad, but I can’t imagine something negative," questioning the necessity of such aggressive campaigning tactics.

In response to accusations, Robert Weagley provided a controversial perspective, attempting to paint Giselle Fest in a negative light with unsupported claims. However, such attempts only fueled more confusion and division among residents like Laura Thomas and Linda Reynolds, who rallied behind Fest, praising her dedication to Liberty.

Todd B. shared a personal encounter, accusing Mayor Greg of bullying tactics, further illustrating the contentious atmosphere within local politics. "Someone needs to remind mayor Greg that he works for us, not the other way around," Todd asserted, reflecting widespread disillusionment with the current administration.

But there’s no stopping a man on a mission—especially when that mission involves undermining the very people who are trying to bring some fresh ideas to the table. After all, how dare Giselle Fest, a strong advocate for local businesses and first responders, stand in the way of the mayor’s iron grip on power?

And speaking of Fest, she's apparently the target of not only baseless accusations but some highly questionable historical claims. Robert Weagley went as far as to connect her to the notorious Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, though the logic behind that statement remains as elusive as Canuteson’s ability to play nice.

But fear not, Liberty residents! As the drama unfolds on your neighborhood social media feeds, it seems that more and more people are calling out the mayor’s antics. Linda Reynolds has had enough, saying Canuteson is showing his "true colors" as he "attacks" a woman who "genuinely cares" for Liberty.

And let's not forget the many, many others who are rallying behind Fest, expressing their utter disgust with Canuteson’s tactics. It seems that the more he attacks, the more he proves just how desperate he truly is.

At the end of the day, one thing is crystal clear: in the political game, Mayor Canuteson has taken a page from the handbook of the petty and desperate. If this is how he treats opponents, perhaps the citizens of Liberty might want to reconsider whether he’s the right person to continue "steering this fine city."

But hey, what's a little integrity in politics when you’ve got a smear campaign to run? Despite attempts to justify his actions, Mayor Greg's tactics have left many questioning his integrity and commitment to fair play in politics. As community voices grow louder in their calls for accountability, the upcoming election promises to be a pivotal moment for Liberty's future.

Stay tuned as the city braces for what promises to be a heated election season, where issues of transparency, respect, and ethical governance take center stage.
