City Council will consider drop-box proposal at KC firehouses.

Northland City Councilman Nathan Willett has stumbled upon a genius idea. A drop box for unwanted babies or those babies whose mom cant take care of them due to economic disadvantages or the perils of drug addiction.

Here is the take from the KC Star.

"Rather than seek an abortion, parents who want or need to give their newborns up for adoption anonymously could surrender their babies at climate-controlled boxes installed at Kansas City fire stations under a proposal introduced Thursday by 1st District Councilman Nathan Willett. Willett’s resolution would instruct the city manager to study what it would take to begin a “Safe Haven Baby Boxes” program. Mayor Quinton Lucas referred it to a council committee for further study, which is typical procedure." https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article303409891.html#storylink=cpy

It is, however, a depressing thought that we have a need for baby drop boxes. Willett, apparently inspired by the ease of returning overdue library books, thought, “Why not babies?” The baby drop box could be as simple as returning a Netflix DVD—back when that was a thing. Just a gentle push through the slot, and voila, you’ve responsibly offloaded your parental duties onto the city with the same ease as discarding last year’s tax returns. Whether you’re running late for a yoga class or just can’t miss another episode of "Game of Thrones," KC's got you covered. Drop that bundle of joy in the box, and you’re back to being the master of your own schedule.

So, hats off to Councilman Willett! But on a serious note, this does seem to be good thing. We all wish that every parent could want their children or be capable parents but in this brave no world that is simply not the case.
